There are the same typical problems in the plumbing industry as
there are in many of the others. One of the problems with plumbing is the contracts
with most builders are so vague. I have a copy I use on my contracts which spells
out very clearly what you receive. For the amount of money it cost to get really
nice plumbing fixtures, it is well worth it. The upgrade cost in most cases is so
little it hardly makes sense to get the less expensive ones to begin with.
Many plumbers do not have a show room to go to. I
had been around for quite a while before I found a company I was confident in.
One of the problems in the industry is the inability for anyone to tell you what
things cost for real. Sure, we can go to the big outlet stores which are
all over the country. But the thing most people do not understand,
is the complications it makes for the building process. Most plumbers
won't guarantee the product you purchase from the big outlets. They
want the fixtures to be purchased from their outlets so they know
exactly what accessories come with them.
They also get added service from
their own outlet stores. Everything is warranted for them, which in
turn, warranty's it for you. Its a big plus really. To make a long story
short, I like this particular company.

Part of Their Showroom
Life becomes so much easier when you go into a
professional operation like this one and receive as much information as
possible. Lets go over a situation I have seen a few times. You go
into a showroom like this and you get the information and then you go to the big
outlet store and purchase the product for (lets say) a 10% saving. You
have your plumber install it, who does not warranty it and then you have
problems down the road. What if a fitting breaks and you have water
problems. There are so many little things that can adversely happen that I cannot
see trying to save 10% on fixtures and then having potential problems. So you save
$500, but you potentially have an inferior product. I say, don't do it. Get
the right product in the first place. I am coming out with a list of items in a book
I am writing, which has recommended standard products, better than standard products, very
good products and superior products. These listed items will be able to give you a
truer understanding of products than you will normally be able to perceive on your own.
Try and use china over china
At least get Mansfield Fixtures
Nothing less than Delta or Moen Faucets
Beware of brass unless its solid all the way through
(I do not like the way it looks years down the road)
But this is just a personal thing.
Kohler kitchen sinks are very nice
(The upgrade price is not as much as you might think)
Whirl pool tubs need more support and need more electrical.
They also need more labor to install them.
So expect to pay an upcharge.
Use the upgraded PVC in your basement and walls. Sometimes
its nice to put cast iron in your walls for the larger drains. They are quieter.
I use a 50 gallon A.O. Smith separately vented high efficiency
water heater as standard. Its an excellent water
heater.
